Registration for the 2023 Richard Seitz Memorial Lecture is now open! We welcome the publication of “Going Upstream: Addiction Care for the Masses” by Dr. William Miller.

Description: The majority of people with diagnosable substance use disorders never receive professional addiction treatment, but most recover. I was passionate about what I did. Dr. Miller builds on his 50 years of research to (1) teach moderation skills, (2) simple opportunistic interventions such as SBIRT, and (3) to intervene at the early stages of problem development, such as motivation. Describes the various ways to “go upstream” in . interviewing and person-centred clinical style, and (4) the delivery of behavioral health services in mainstream medicine.

William R. Miller, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico, Director of Clinical Training, and Founder and Co-Director of the Center for Alcoholism, Substance Abuse and Addiction (CASAA) I was. His publications include 65 books and his over 400 articles and chapters. With a fundamental interest in the psychology of change, he introduced the method of motivational interviewing in 1983. The Institute for Scientific Information lists him as the world’s most cited scientist.
